Thomas Ditson was a young farmer from Billerica, Massachusetts who went to Boston on March 8, 1775 to buy a rifle to defend his home and family. What he learned in Boston that day was that the soldiers of King George III were not above treachery and cruelty to make an example of him to the increasingly nervous crowds in Boston. He paid a painful price... then left the story for us to learn 250 years later.
This 24 page soft cover book was published for the visitor market at historic sites around Boston . The illustrations are a combination of loose pencil and marker sketches combined with photos of actual skies and clouds in the backgrounds and a few areas of more detail as needed. Copies of old maps and period objects added to the story line. Thomas Ditson is well known in the Boston area and especially in his town of Billerica where he is ceremonially tarred and feathered every year on the town common during Independence Day Celebrations.

This 401 page book is a Geneology record of a part of a large family whose ancestors immigrated to the new world colonies some time before the American Revolution. It's unusual for a genealogy book to be illustrated as there are rarely any ways of knowing what the people looked like. There are rules about accuracy of data that is included. This was dealt with by obscuring the faces of any of the primary subjects of the book when they were pictured in the illustrations of the stories. A head turned away, a shadowed face in a bright doorway, a woman backlit by her cooking fire, a couple seen from behind... an unusual requirement certainly.
